What a franchise gives you
A name parents may recognise, a curriculum, systems, training, and a territory. For some people in some suburbs that’s worth it.
What it costs
Typically $30,000–70,000 upfront, then 10–40% of revenue as royalties and marketing levies, for as long as you trade. Restrictions on exit, pricing and sometimes on which tutors you can hire.
What your own agency gives you
Your brand, your pricing, your curriculum choices, 100% of the margin, and a business you can sell without permission. What it doesn’t give you is a national name — you build local trust instead, which in tutoring is mostly done by results and reviews anyway.
The break-even question
At a 20% royalty on $150,000 of annual revenue, a franchise costs $30,000 a year in perpetuity. Most owners find that number focuses the decision.
